SHALLOTS FROM NIEDERSACHSEN

We were not able to find out when shallots were first sold in German grocery stores. But we do know that most of the shallots that have been sold here over the years have been from France. A few years ago farmers in Niedersachsen tried to grow shallots – and they were successful! In 2016 we packed shallots from Niedersachsen in our packhouse for the first time.

Sales have gone up steadily since then. To us this does not come as a surprise: shallots are great for cooking! They are not the same as onions. They are more mild and smooth. We love them!
